Creative Music is a cycle of open and semi-improvised pieces characterised by unique technique and sensitivity and composed by Szábolcs Esztényi—the composer for Szábolcs Esztényi—the pianist. I was able to enter this intimate world thanks to long conversations with this extraordinary artist on the subject of contemporary performance and improvisation, which we held during my studies at the Fryderyk Chopin University of Music in Warsaw and later, after my graduation. I was fascinated with Creative Music because of the opportunity it offered to create a very condensed material in real time and to utilise the vast set of formal improvisational techniques developed by Szábolcs Esztényi. From this extensive cycle I have chosen three compositions which are very different when it comes to their forms and sound.
